Sex Workers
Sonya Skelton provides support for sex workers in Northampton and works closely with both the clients and other agencies/services, such as Social Services, Probation, CAN, and Women’s Aid. This enables this client group to gain access to services to address health and social functioning needs.
Harm reduction is an important part of Sonya’s role ensuring that the Sex Workers have access to appropriate drug treatment, advice, support, needle exchange and engaging with the GP practice to address sexual and general health needs.
Other aspects of Sonyas role include:-
- Providing clients with a harm reduction service through needle exchange which is a 'free of charge' service.
- Giving clients support by accessing sexual health screening & providing condoms 'free of charge'.
HIV finger prick testing.
She holds clinics at Maple on-
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday including an evening clinic every second Wednesday 6pm to 9 pm.
- On Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings Sonya provides a drop in at the SWAN Partnership based in Fish Street, Northampton.
